Throughout these four lectures, Borges evokes the Palermo and the Barrio Sur, the neighborhoods of long gone 19th and early 20th century Buenos Aires, peopled with rakish compadritos, shady establishments, and compasses from half-sung milongas. Borges dwells on the origins, the myths, and lyrics of Tango, the traditional musical genre of the Río de la Plata. Transcribed here for the first time, these lectures dsoffer a remarkable encounter: that of Borges labyrinthinemind and that music which he described as "a syombol of happiness."
